Problems using Applescripts in iCal

Hi Gary,

yesterday I wtched your Podcast on updating Podcasts using Applescript. Today I wanted to try a similar thing. However, I downloaded an Applescript from the internet and wanted to use it in iCal. But it was not possible to choose it in the drop down menu (it was completly grey as all toher items). What could be the reason?

So this was a file you downloaded from the net? Did you try opening it up in the AppleScript editor? Maybe it isn't a script, but a compiled application from a script. If so, use "Open File" instead of "Run Script" -- either way, test it out outside of iCal before using it inside iCal.

    Hi Gary,

thanks for your answer. You were right: it was a programm, not a script.
However, I tried to use a script as a startup item. But instead of running the script after booting, my Mac only opened it Applescript Editor. Is their a way to make the Mac running a script automatically after booting?

You can turn a script into an application using the Applescript editor. Just save it as a Application. Then you can run that application on boot.
