I have a new Mac book pro running the new lion. Seems that since i upgraded to lion, iPhoto 11 crashed when i try and import photos. Any thoughts on what the problem is?

Do you have any photos in there yet? If not, you might just want to create a new library.
Otherwise, it is hard to tell what the problem could be.
There are many ways to import photos. Which one, in particular are you using?
It has worked fine in the past, i do have photos in there. Normally i insert a SD card, then select the photos and hit import. Now because it crashes, i just pulled the photos off the SD card to a folder, then tried to drag and drop the folder into Iphoto and it crashes then too.
It just seemed to start recently and i am guessing it happened when the Lion upgrade.
Try rebuilding your iPhoto library. Backup first. Then start iPhoto while holding Command+Option.
Have had "similar" problem in past. Suggestion: If your memory card is truly empty, use your *CAMERA'S* software to Re-Format EVERYTHING.--
IN CAMERA. If you start messing with it via your system USB, it (camera/card) can get confused. There's often that pesky, miniscule "built-in" camera memory also. Start over and reformat storage IN CAMERA. Hope this helps. Can't harm.
I had the same issue when I upgraded to Lion. I called in to AppleCare and they were able to help fix the issue immediately
