Galaxy On Fire 3D is one of the nicer space opera games we’ve seen. The 3D graphics are good, and you don’t get lost too easily. The gameplay seems to be deep and interesting with lots of options for traveling around, making money, trading goods, finding adventure, etc.

You can use the F-keys on your keyboard (sometimes with the FN key) to adjust volume and brightness. But did you know that you can hold down Option and Shift while doing that to move in smaller increments?

You can use mail merges for more than just letters and envelopes. You can create your own custom spreadsheets of data in Numbers, and then merge that with a custom Pages document for interesting results. In this example, a small list of school test results is printed on individual pages.

If you have several people in your household and want to share iOS apps between them, you can do it with iTunes Home Sharing. But turning on Home Sharing on each computer, and then authorizing each other to use purchased items from each others' accounts, you can drag and drop apps in iTunes. Then sync with your iOS devices to put those apps on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
MacMost Now 728: Creating Animated Video Charts With Keynote

You can create the same charts in Keynote as you can in Numbers and Pages. But with Keynote you can animate them. You can have the different parts of a bar graph, line graph or pie chart appear using different transition effects. Then you can export the result as a video to use in iMovie.

Control+click or right click on any app in your Dock. Go to the Options submenu. Here you can select Open At Login. This will mark the app as something to run when you start up. You can also repeat the selection to turn it off. This is a handy way to set some apps to start automatically without having to mess with your Login Items in System Preferences.

MacMost Now 724: Numbers Headers and Footers

Learn to use header and footer rows in iWork Numbers. Footers allow you to easily perform functions, like sums and averages on entire columns. Headers can remain at the top of the screen as you scroll. Both can be used to keep calculations and titles separate from sorted data in the body of a spreadsheet.

iCloud services are tied into apps like Mail, iCal and Address Book. But you can also access your data through the iCloud.com web site. This allows you to get your email and access your events and contacts even when you are using a computer that doesn't have iCloud. The web-based apps are very sophisticated, offering almost the same functionality as the full apps, and often more functionality than the iOS apps. You can also use iCloud.com to transfer documents between your Mac and iOS devices, even in Lion.

Walking Mars is an adventure and exploration game where you travel through tunnels on Mars discovering new life forms and ancient artifacts. Each element you discover helps you solve puzzles and moves the story forward. The game has nice graphics and a leisurely pace that is a good change from some of the high-intensity games for iOS.

It is always nice to see classic arcade games come back to life, especially when they are near-exact duplicates of the originals, and not so “re-invention.” Midway Arcade includes games like Joust and Spy Hunter along with the app. Plus you can buy more depending on which are your favorites.

If you are looking to clean up your Address Books/Contacts App, you can use the Card, Merge Selected Cards menu command to merge two or more contacts. You can use Look For Duplicates in the same menu, but that doesn’t give you as much control as you may want. It is usually better to take the time to look through your contacts and merge ones that you know belong together.
