How To Create a Smart Folder for Files Created or Opened Within the Last 2 Days?

How can I create a smart folder for any files (documents and movies) created or opened within the last 2 days WITHOUT the folders? I don’t want the folders included.

I would like to create a smart folder for all the files (documents and movies) I created or opened within the last 2 days. But I don’t want see any folders appear in the result.

You mention folders as it you are able to create this, but for some reason folders are included alongside documents and movie files. Is that the case? When I create this, I only get documents and movie files. Other types of files, including folders, do no appear. Curious to know what you are doing to get results that are documents, movies AND folders.

But I'm also confused by where you state "any files (documents and movies)." Which one do you want? Any files, or just documents and movies?

Creating Smart Folder for documents and movies is relatively straight-forward. Here's what that one looks like:

To get the "All of the following are true" statement, you hold down the Option key can the + button changes to ⋯ and you click that.

On the other hand, if you really want to include any files, but exclude folders, you can do it this way. I also excluded applications too.

To get the "None of the following are true" you also Option+click where the + button is located, but then change "All" to "None."

thank you for your quick response
By “any files “ I meant any files that I created myself (e.g. TextEdit documents, movies, Excel Files, Affinity Designer Files etc.)
The files should have either been created within the last 2 days or opened within the last days
I think I managed to do that after I saw your screenshot, but I had to do it differently
I would like to send you a screenshot but I don't know how to to this on this webite

Erich: Just share it via iCloud or use a site like Imgur.com to share an image.

You probably don't need the "Created Date" part. If it was created, you probably opened it, right? But if you receive files from others and maybe don't open them then it could make a difference. You don't need the "Kind is any" -- get rid of that line.

Gary, great video thanks for posting.
One thing I can't get working is a search for stray (ebooks) which are in 2 formats (.pdf or .epub).
The search works for one format at a time only. When epub is added after pdf which is in the list it removes all .pdf finds and leaves a blank search result! So what is missing?

Paul: Look at your conditions carefully. You should be doing "Any" of the following are true, and then looking for those two things.

Of course works like a charm! Thanks for the speedy reply Gary.
