A school in Wood Ridge, New Jersey has lost the iPads used in a classroom due to the flooding. Help them replace them.
“Last year my students used their iPads in their writing celebrations. They presented their “How To” books and personal narratives to their classmates and their families using this technology. We were planning on using the iPads this year for similar activities, however with the iPads having been destroyed in the floods of Hurricane Sandy this will not happen.”

Apple will again be offering special deals on the day after U.S. Thanksgiving. It sent out emails earlier with week with links to a special page that teases the event.
In the past, the sales haven’t been anything spectacular, with just a small discount on selected Macs and iOS devices. However, contrast this with the fact that Apple never reduces prices at any other time. Plus, you can get these deals at the online Apple Store, so you don’t need to get up early or wait in line.
The Apple Store isn’t the only place you can find discounts on Apple products this week. Many major retailers like Best Buy and Target also are advertising sales that include iPads and iTunes gift cards.
“What’s this $1,000 charge from Apple? Did you buy a new computer?”
“No, I just bought a few Thunderbolt and Lightning cable adapters.”
When you press the yellow button at the top of most windows, the window will minimize and shrink into the Dock. What to watch that animation in slow motion? Hold the Shift key down while you press the yellow button.
Apple moved forward with the availability of newly announced products this week. LTE-equipped iPads and iPad minis began shipping this week to those that pre-ordered first. Both show as shipping in two weeks on the Apple Store site and there are reports of these going on sale in retail stores this week. iPhone 5 supplies seem to be improving with some customers able to get a hold of one within days of ordering. However, the new iMacs are still listed as shipping in November (21.5-inch) and December (27-inch). There is at least one rumor that these may be delayed until after the new year, but Apple still officially lists November and December.
Apple and phone maker HTC have agreed to a 10-year licensing deal, settling patent disputes between the two companies. While details are unknown, it seems that the companies will pay each other for using technology patents in their products and agree not to sue each other. A similar, but more heated, patent war is going on right now between Apple and Samsung. Apple will most likely use the HTC agreement to show that it is possible for companies to settle differences and work together.

A teacher in Los Angeles is looking to add two iPad minis to her classroom. “I envision having my students use the pads during our nonfiction reading and writing units. iTunes has hundreds of nonfiction texts the students can explore. They can also use them to research their nonfiction report topics. On the iPad students will have access to IMovie and Keynote so that instead of simply typing their report they can create movies and presentations and truly be 21st century kids!”

“Goldilocks said: This iPad is too big. And this iPod touch is too small. But this iPad mini is just right.”
In System Preferences, go to Keyboard and then look for the Modifier Keys button. Click it and you’ll get settings for exchanging one modifier key for the other. For instance, you can switch the Option key and the Control key. Not so useful normally, but if you are using a third-party keyboard and don’t like how it is set up, then can help. You can also disable the Caps Lock key, which can be useful.
Letterpress is a deceptively simple two player word game for the iPhone and iPad. You are quickly and easily matched up with someone and place head-to-head, selecting letters to form words from a 5×5 grid. The winner is the one with the most captured letters when all 25 letters have been used. Moves can take a minute or can span days, so usually you have several games going at once.
