Take a look at iBooks reading options on the iPad. WIth iBooks 3 you can change the font, font size, background style and even switch to a continuous scrolling mode. Each style has its merits depending on what you like, the size of your iPad and whether you are holding it horizontally or vertically. But textbooks and PDFs will not give you as many options.
MacMost Now 786: Using Google Forms To Create Questionnaires

It is quick and easy to create an online survey using Google Drive. You can simply add some questions to a form and then publish it, sending the link to the people you wish to take the survey. You can then get the results in a spreadsheet. It is so easy to create one of these that you can use them to help with all sorts of work, school or personal tasks.
MacMost Now 785: Filling Cells In Numbers

There are various ways you can automatically fill cells in Numbers. You can copy and paste to quickly fill cells one time. Or, you can construct your table so cells automatically fill in as you expand the table. You can also fill in cells with a series like months, dates, numbers or letters.

A classroom at Ryerson Elementary School in Chicago needs a MacBook Air. “Students will learn to edit, draw, share solutions with apps on mathematical problems. Students will surf the web and showcase pictures, links and apps to receive further information in math, science, reading and writing.”

The new iPad and iPad mini went on sale last Friday and easily outsold the 3rd generation iPad on its opening weekend. Apple reported 3 million combined sales, despite only wi-fi versions of the two iPads being available. Apple Stores were sold out of the Most, if not all, Apple Stores sold out of the iPad mini. Only higher-end 64GB models remained in some stores.
Apple is unlikely to make any new product announcements from now until the end of the year. It has updated almost its entire product line in the last few months and is most likely set for the holiday shopping season. New iMacs were announced last month, but are not expected to ship until later this month and in December for the 27-inch models. Current shipping times for the iPhone 5 remain at 3-4 weeks. But MacBook Pros with retina displays are shown as being In Stock.

Learn how to crop photos using Pixelmator and then resize and export them. You can also cut out a part of an image and trim it. Pixelmator has a variety of ways to modify a selection to create better cut outs.

For those buying their first iPad, or looking to upgrade from an older one, they now have to choose between the iPad and the iPad mini. They are very similar, except for differences in size, screen, speed and price. In the end it is a subjective choice with size and price being the deciding factors for most people.
MacMost Now 782: Classic RPGs For Today's Macs

Classic role playing games from the 80s and 90s can still be played on brand new Macs running Mountain Lion. Take a look at NetHack and Ultima IV, two of the all-time best. They are both available for free. Another classic, Baulder's Gate, will be coming out later this month.

The iPad mini and the new 4th Generation iPad are due to hit Apple Stores tomorrow, while shipments are on their way to homes. Apple sold out of iPad mini models about three days after online preorders went live.
Two Apple senior vice presidents will we leaving the company shortly. Scott Forstall, in charge of iOS came to Apple with Steve Jobs in 1997 and was even occasionally mentioned in the press as a possible CEO candidate. The are rumors that his refusal to sign an apology for the shortcomings of the new Maps app may have played a part in this change. He will remain a special advisor to Apple until next year. John Browett took over retail at Apple just last year and not much has been reported about his departure.
Last week Apple reported record profits for the 4th quarter with nearly 27 million iPhones sold, 14 million iPads and 5 million Macs. It was also reported that sales of the Apple TV topped 5 million units in the last year.

A classroom of 20 students need two iPads to help them explore the many apps created for reading, math, phonics and many other content areas. Many of my students do not have access to technology outside of school, so by giving the students the opportunity to explore technology through iPads every day in school they will be practicing the skills that they need to be successful second graders in the 21st Century.

With Automator you can create your own application that will resize any image dropped onto it. In this example it will create a new file, name the file appropriately, and resize the image in that file. You can use this for a single image or to batch process several images.

MacMost Now 779: Apple's New Fusion Drive

A new storage option from Apple is a compromise between a solid state drive and a hard drive. It uses both to create a single volume and automatically put the most used files in speedy SSD storage and the rest on the slower hard drive. This all goes on behind the scenes and gives nearly the speed of an SD drive at a fraction of the price.

Apple’s Tuesday announcements included no less than four major new hardware updates and one new product. As expected, they released an iPad mini, a 7.9-inch screen version of the popular iPad, for only $329. In addition, a new thiner iMac, new MacBook Pro and new Mac mini were shown.
The new iPad mini comes alongside a new 4th generation full-size iPad. This new model is more or less the same as the 3rd generation but with a faster A6X processor and the new Lightning dock connector. The iPad mini has all of the same capabilities as the full-size model but with a slower A5 processor similar to the one in the iPad 2.
The new iMac sports a much thiner design and new hard drive options. In addition to opting for a standard hard drive or solid state drive, buyers can get an Apple Fusion drive which is a combination of the two.
A new Mac mini also offers the Fusion drive as an option, and features improved specifications over the previous model in almost all respects. A new MacBook Pro model was also announced with a 13-inch Retina display.
The new iPads can be pre-ordered tomorrow and will start shipping on Nov. 2. The new Mac mini and MacBook Pro are available now, but the iMac won’t be available until November.

Apple announced many new products today including a new iPad mini, a 4th generation iPad, new iMac, new 13-inch MacBook Pro with retina display and a new Mac mini. They also updated iBooks and iBooks Author with new features.
MacMost Now 777: Emoji Characters For iOS and Mac

You can type Emoji characters on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and add them to your text messages, email messages or documents. Emoji characters are color characters with small images like smiling faces, map symbols, hearts, and so on. On the iPhone and iPad you need to enable the Emoji keyboard to easily type these. On the Mac, you need to turn on your character viewer.

If your iPhone is stolen much of your personal data, including access to your email and online accounts, can be stolen as well. Protect yourself by setting up your iPhone correctly in advance. Turn on passcode protection and also the Find My iPhone feature. With Find My iPhone you can erase or track your iPhone.
